18. Proposed amendments to cyberlaw could benefit hackers
The proposed deletion of Section 66 of the Information Technology Act 2000, which defines hacking and makes it punishable
with three years imprisonment and Rs 2 lakh fine, is the most significant one. Section 66 is a provision that has been
drafted in a very broad and generic sense and can therefore apply in the case of most emerging cybercrimes.
